The Nepali cricket team has strengthened its campaign for a maiden medal at the Asian Games after securing a five-wicket victory over Afghanistan. The match, held at the Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Japan, has significantly increased the team's prospects of advancing to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. Nepal, Afghanistan, and Japan compete together in Group A of the competition. Following the initial victory, Nepal successfully chased down a target of 73 runs set by Japan, completing the run chase in 15 overs to win by eight wickets. The result keeps the team in a strong position to qualify as one of the top two sides from the group. The qualification scenario remains competitive. If Japan defeats Nepal and Oman secures a victory against Malaysia on Saturday, the two progressing teams from the group will be decided by net run rate. Under this scenario, all teams in the group would be tied with one victory each, making the margin of wins crucial for advancement.
