Khandbari-Kimathanka road reopens after landslide cleared

Traffic movement has resumed along the Khandbari-Kimathanka road after the clearance of a significant landslide and rockfall at Chhumsur, located within Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-2. Project chief Ram Bahadur Gurung reported that the obstruction involved large boulders resting in an area under the operational responsibility of the Indradal Gulma. A deployed military team carried out controlled explosions to fracture the oversized rocks into smaller fragments, enabling project workers to clear the path completely. The North-South Koshi Highway project office had sought assistance from the military to address the blockage situated roughly 21 kilometres from Kimathanka and approximately 141 kilometres from Khandbari. Project officials highlighted that the military provided crucial support under challenging geographical conditions. The road closure had previously caused considerable difficulties for daily travel, the delivery of essential supplies, and the normal routines of residents in the area. As a vital infrastructure link connecting the Koshi region to the northern frontier, the route faces persistent risks of landslides and falling rocks during the rainy season. Project authorities stated that ongoing maintenance across various sections of the roadway helps maintain continuous transportation links. The recent clearance work has restored connectivity, easing movement and supporting local communities in the remote terrain.
