The Nepal Electricity Authority reported total export earnings of Rs 5.925 billion from power delivered to India throughout September, matching the Nepalese calendar month of Ashoj. Energy transmission levels expanded during this period, following brief operational halts brought on by heavy flooding late in August. Official records confirm that over 630 million units of power crossed the border to Indian buyers during the month. Monsoons damaged crucial hydropower facilities and energy transmission infrastructure on 26 August, causing temporary shutdowns across several generation plants. Executive director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha stated that despite the physical destruction from high waters, alternative generation facilities maintained cross-border supply lines. The electricity trade volume subsequently recovered in Ashoj as production stabilized across the grid. Export statistics show steady growth when compared to earlier trading periods. Income from electricity sales to India stood at Rs 4.963 billion during September of the previous year, while exports in August of the current fiscal year generated Rs 5.0925 billion. Total revenue accumulated across the first three months of the 2026/27 fiscal year—spanning July, August, and September—reached Rs 16.1513 billion. Cross-border energy delivery to Bangladesh also experienced temporary disruption after flash flooding occurred along the Bhotekoshi River on 26 August. According to authority officials, transmission lines and generation facilities were repaired, allowing electricity deliveries to Bangladesh to resume on Friday. Managing Director Shrestha highlighted the restart of supply to Bangladesh alongside sustained Indian exports as critical steps for the country's energy trade.
