Continuous rainfall caused the Narayani River to overflow into the Tharu settlement of Susta in western Nawalparasi, prompting local residents to seek safety. The flood reached the Tharu settlement’s Tharu neighbourhood, damaging homes, fields and roads, according to local resident Munseekumar Harijan. Chief District Officer Dipak Raj Nepal instructed affected families to move to secure locations. He said some families stayed with relatives while others used the community building that serves as a temporary shelter. Ravindra Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Susta Rescue Campaign, confirmed that 78 households from the Tharu settlement were relocated to the community shelter and relatives’ homes. He added that Nepal Police and security personnel assisted in moving residents. Harijan reported that the flood destroyed ten katha of his own millet cultivation and ruined the crops of many other farmers. He said the temporary embankments built at the start of the monsoon have already been breached, exposing more land to flooding.
