Seven foreign tourists rescued after snowfall in Solukhumbu

Continuous rain was followed by heavy snow in the upper Khumbu region of Solukhumbu, affecting movement for trekkers and climbers, according to both reports. Chief District Officer कमानसिंह थापा मगर said snow depth exceeded half a metre in several spots, leading to a restriction on further ascent. Seven foreign tourists, identified as Chinese nationals, were stranded at Imja Tse, a popular climbing destination within Sagarmatha National Park. Local officials and police coordinated their safe relocation to lower areas with the help of community members. Ward chairperson लक्ष्मण अधिकारी of Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality warned tourists and trekkers to prioritise safety and refrain from unnecessary travel in hazardous conditions, echoing the district officer's advice. Park authorities noted that over 1,200 visitors are currently in the Sagarmatha region, with continuous monitoring by local administration, police and disaster management committees to ensure safety. The Nepal Tourism Board highlighted that Imja Tse sits at roughly 9,165 metres above sea level and remains a key route linking the Dingi Boche trail to the main base camp pathways.
