BP Highway remains blocked by landslides and river erosion

Continuous rainfall over the past four days has triggered landslides and river erosion, blocking the BP Highway in several locations. The Khurkot to Bhakunde Bensi section remains closed as of the latest reports. The Roshhi River's erosion has significantly impacted the road's stability in these areas. Specific blockages were identified in Namobuddha ward 6, Roshhi wards 7, 8, and 11. These sections were completely obstructed due to the severity of the landslides. Efforts to reopen the highway are currently underway by local teams. A local official noted that temporary diversions are causing significant issues, with small vehicles scraping the ground and posing risks to passengers. The official stated that the state must secure immediate resources for the reconstruction of the BP Highway. Residents expect the government to consider local input and conduct technical studies to build a structure capable of withstanding natural disasters. They are urging authorities to carefully review their suggestions before proceeding with the work. The government has previously claimed that the road reconstruction would be completed within two years. However, the current situation highlights the ongoing challenges posed by floods and landslides despite these reconstruction efforts.
