Terms of use

These terms are an agreement between you and the publisher that operates WeNepal ("WeNepal", "we", "us"). They apply to wenepal.com, the WeNepal app, our API, feeds, newsletters, push notifications, videos and social channels (together, "the service"). By using the service you accept these terms and the policies they refer to. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

WeNepal's technology provider, Lacspace, supplies the software platform and technical infrastructure. Lacspace is not the owner or the publisher of WeNepal and makes no editorial decisions; WeNepal is responsible for what it publishes.

If a policy and these terms conflict, these terms prevail.

WeNepal publishes news, summaries, explainers, digests, data, tools and video about Nepal, in Nepali and English. Reading the news is free. If a paid membership is offered, it sells convenience and support, not access to the news, and its own terms will be shown before you pay.

We may change, suspend or stop any part of the service at any time. We aim to keep it available but do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or free of errors.

Much of the service is produced with the help of AI. Software reads named outlets and official sources and drafts summaries in its own words; automatic checks compare every number, name, date and quote with the sources; sensitive stories always wait for an editor; routine stories that pass every check may publish automatically. Every item carries a label that tells you how it was made, and names its sources. The AI policy explains the process.

You accept that AI-assisted content, like any news, can contain errors, and that you should check the original sources before relying on a story for any important decision. We correct errors in public under the corrections policy.

Nothing in the service is financial, investment, legal, medical or other professional advice, and nothing is an official warning. Market figures, exchange rates, weather and tool results are for information only. See the disclaimer.

Stories, digests, cards, videos, graphics, the Promise Tracker, Radar profiles, data compilations and the design of the service are © WeNepal, except material we credit to others. Facts and news of the day belong to no one; our expression of them belongs to us.

You may:

• Read, watch and listen for your own personal, non-commercial use.
• Share links, and quote short extracts with a clear credit to WeNepal and a link.
• Share our cards and videos unaltered, with the WeNepal mark, credits and labels intact.
• Use our feeds in a reader or a service that shows headlines and links back to us.

You may not, without our written permission:

• Republish full stories, digests, videos or data, or sell or license our content.
• Remove or alter source credits, AI labels, correction notes, photo or music credits, or the WeNepal mark.
• Use our content, feeds or API to train or evaluate AI models, build datasets, or build or feed a competing service.
• Scrape or crawl the service beyond what our robots.txt and crawler page allow.

Third-party material (photos, music, quoted sources) is used under the licences listed on the licences page and remains its owners'. Syndication and other licences are available in writing; write to hello@wenepal.com.

Our summaries credit and link the outlets and documents they are based on. Those outlets own their content, and links lead to sites we do not control. A link is not an endorsement. Trademarks and names of other organisations belong to their owners.

• You need a phone number or an email address to create an account, and you must be at least 13. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian first.
• Give accurate information. One-time sign-in codes are personal; never share them.
• You are responsible for what is done with your account. Tell us at hello@wenepal.com if you think it has been misused.
• You can delete your account at any time from the account page or the app; see data retention and deletion.

This covers comments (when enabled), reactions, suggestions, tips, messages and any other material you send us ("your content").

• You keep ownership of your content. You give WeNepal a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, display, edit for length, clarity and legal reasons, translate between Nepali and English, and publish your content on the service and our channels, and to use it in our reporting, for as long as it is on the service and afterwards in the archive and backups. If you send a tip or document, you also allow us to use the information in it for our journalism.
• You confirm that you have the right to send your content and that it does not break the law, anyone's rights or the community guidelines.
• We are not obliged to publish or keep anything you send. We may moderate, hide or remove it at any time.

You must follow the acceptable use policy and the community guidelines. In particular, do not break the law of Nepal, including the Electronic Transactions Act 2063 (2008), attack or overload the service, access it by automated means beyond what we allow, or impersonate anyone.

Marketing email is sent only after you confirm your subscription, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe. SMS is used only for one-time sign-in codes, never for marketing. Push notifications can be turned off in the app or your device settings.

Advertisements and sponsored content are labelled. Advertisers and sponsors have no say in our coverage. See the advertising and sponsored content policy.

• Complaints and grievances: see the complaints procedure, which also explains how to approach Press Council Nepal.
• Copyright: see the copyright policy.
• Other legal notices: legal@wenepal.com. We acknowledge within 24 hours and assess within 48 hours, and may unpublish a story pending review. We keep a record of every notice and our response.

• You may stop using the service at any time and delete your account.
• We may restrict, suspend or end your access to community features or your account, with or without notice, if you break these terms or the policies above, if the law requires it, or to protect readers, sources or the service. Where it is safe and lawful, we will tell you why.
• When your account ends, the licence you gave us for content already published continues as described above, and the sections of these terms that by their nature should survive (including ownership, the licence you gave us, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law) continue to apply.

The service and all content, data and tools are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties and conditions, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by the law of Nepal:

• WeNepal, its staff, contributors and technology provider are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, business or goodwill, arising from or in connection with the service, any content, data, tool result, link or advertisement in it, or any interruption of it.
• WeNepal is not liable for decisions you make in reliance on the service, including investment, legal, medical or safety decisions.
• Our total liability to you for all claims arising from or in connection with the service is limited to the amount, if any, that you paid WeNepal for the service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of Nepal, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any right you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.

If you use the service in breach of these terms or the law, or send content that infringes someone's rights, you are responsible for the resulting loss, and you agree to compensate WeNepal for reasonable costs, including legal costs, arising from a claim by a third party caused by that breach.

These terms, and any dispute or claim arising from or in connection with them or the service, are governed by the laws of Nepal, including the Electronic Transactions Act 2063 (2008). The courts of Kathmandu, Nepal, have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory right you have to bring proceedings elsewhere. Before going to court, please use the complaints procedure; it is free and usually faster.

We may update these terms, for example when the service or the law changes. The date at the top shows the current version. If a change materially affects account holders, we will tell them by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using the service after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you do not accept them, stop using the service and delete your account.

• If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
• If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not waived it.
• You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a successor that continues to operate WeNepal, and will tell account holders if we do.
• These terms are published in English and Nepali. Both are intended to say the same thing; if they differ, the English version prevails.
