Copyright and takedown policy

WeNepal respects the work of journalists, photographers, musicians and every other creator. We write in our own words, we credit every source, and we use only images, music and footage that we are licensed to use. This page explains our copyright position and the procedure for reporting material you believe infringes your rights. In this page "WeNepal", "we" and "us" mean the publisher that operates wenepal.com and the WeNepal app.

The text of our stories, digests, explainers and videos, our cards and graphics, the Promise Tracker and Radar, and the design of the service are protected by copyright and belong to WeNepal, except where we credit someone else. Facts and news of the day are not owned by anyone; our expression of them is ours. The WeNepal name, logo and pulse mark are our brand and may not be used in a way that suggests we endorse or are connected with you.

What you may and may not do with our content is set out in the terms of use. In short: link, quote short extracts with credit, and share our cards and videos unaltered; do not republish full stories, remove credits or labels, or use our content to train AI models or build a competing service without written permission.

• Sources. Our summaries are written in our own words from the outlets and documents they credit. We do not copy sentences, headlines, photos or video from other outlets; an automatic check blocks drafts that reuse a source's wording.
• Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under the free licence stated on each file, or from Pexels under the Pexels licence, and are credited on the page. We do not take photos from news sites.
• Music in our videos is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 and credited in each video description.

If you believe we have got this wrong in a particular case, tell us using the procedure below. We take such notices seriously and act on them quickly.

Send your notice by email to legal@wenepal.com with "Copyright notice" in the subject line. To let us act quickly, include:

1. Your full name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
2. The work you say is infringed (for example a link to your original article, photograph or recording) and, if you are acting for the owner, your authority to act.
3. The exact WeNepal URL(s) or the channel post(s) where the material appears, and what part of it you object to.
4. A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law.
5. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the owner of the right or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
6. Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is enough by email).

Incomplete notices may delay action. We may ask for more information.

• We acknowledge a complete notice within 24 hours.
• We assess it within 48 hours. Where the claim appears valid, or while we check it, we may remove or disable access to the material, including on our social channels.
• We tell the person responsible for the material (for example a contributor) that it has been removed and give them a copy of the notice, with your personal contact details removed unless the law requires otherwise.
• We keep a record of every notice and our response.

If material you provided was removed and you believe that was a mistake, or that you have the right to use it, you may send a counter-notice to legal@wenepal.com with "Copyright counter-notice" in the subject line. Include:

1. Your full name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
2. The material that was removed and the URL where it appeared before removal.
3. A statement that you believe in good faith that the material was removed by mistake or misidentification, or that you have the right to use it, with the reasons.
4. A statement that you accept the jurisdiction of the courts of Nepal for any dispute about the material, and that you will accept service of legal papers from the person who sent the original notice.
5. Your physical or electronic signature.

We forward the counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. If they do not tell us within 10 working days that they have started legal proceedings, we may restore the material. Our decision to restore or keep material down is made on the evidence we have and does not decide the legal question between you.

Knowingly false or misleading notices or counter-notices may expose the sender to legal liability, and we may disregard further notices from a sender who abuses this procedure.

We end the accounts and contributor arrangements of people who repeatedly upload or submit infringing material.

This policy is governed by the law of Nepal, including the Copyright Act 2059 (2002). Nothing here limits any right you have under that law.
