The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre has expanded renewable energy coverage to more than 3.7 million households across Nepal over the past three decades. Established on 3 November 1996, the institution has played a central role in extending clean power solutions to isolated and off-grid communities throughout the country. Speaking at an event marking the milestone, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha outlined a revised strategy for the sector. Minister Shrestha stated that sustainable growth requires moving away from heavy dependence on individual projects and state subsidies. He urged stakeholders to transform clean energy initiatives into drivers of job creation and commercial production. The energy minister instructed the centre to take a proactive approach in attracting private capital and tapping into global funding mechanisms. He emphasized that accessing international climate finance and engaging in carbon trading are essential steps to sustain long-term development in the sector. Furthermore, Minister Shrestha called for upgrading national expertise, technical skills and clean technologies. He noted that strengthening collaborations with international development partners and private firms would help position Nepal's renewable energy capabilities within broader international markets.
