Corrections and right of reply policy
How WeNepal corrects errors in public, how fast, and how people and organisations named in our stories can reply.
Counsel has not yet signed off this text. It may change; the date above shows the current version.
Accuracy comes before speed at WeNepal. When we get something wrong we fix it in public, say what changed and when, and list serious errors on the public corrections log. This policy applies to every story, digest, card, video, push notification and social post published under the WeNepal name, whether it was written by an editor or drafted with AI. In this page "WeNepal", "we" and "us" mean the publisher that operates the service.
How to report an error
- Email corrections@wenepal.com, or use the contact form and choose "Report an error".
- Tell us the story (a link is best), what is wrong and, if you can, where the correct information comes from.
- You do not need an account, and you do not need to be named in the story.
We acknowledge every report within 24 hours and give a decision within 48 hours. Once an error is confirmed, the correction is made within one hour.
Levels of correction
| Level | When | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Typo | Spelling, grammar or formatting that does not change a fact | Fixed without a note |
| Correction | A factual error that does not change the meaning of the story | Fixed, with a dated "Corrected" note at the end saying what was wrong and what is right |
| Major correction | An error that changes the meaning of the story | Fixed, with a dated note at the top, a corrected post on the channels where the story appeared, and an entry in the corrections log |
| Retraction | The story should not have been published | The body is replaced by a retraction note explaining why; social posts are deleted; an entry in the corrections log |
| Update | New information, not an error | Marked "Updated" with the time; not listed in the log |
We do not quietly delete stories to hide mistakes. A retracted story keeps its address and shows the retraction note. When a story exists in both Nepali and English, we correct both editions.
Errors that came from a source
Many WeNepal stories summarise other outlets and official sources. If the error was in the source, we still correct our story and say that the source has changed or was wrong. Sources that are repeatedly wrong lose trust in our system and can be dropped.
AI-assisted stories
AI-assisted stories are corrected in exactly the same way. The correction note says what was wrong; it does not blame the software. A person at WeNepal is responsible for every correction.
Right of reply
If a story names you or your organisation and you believe it is inaccurate or unfair, you have a right to reply.
- Email corrections@wenepal.com or choose "Right of reply" on the contact form. The desk editor reads these first.
- Tell us which story, what you dispute, and give your response. Keep it to the point; we may ask you to shorten it.
- We reply within 48 hours. Where the reply is relevant and not unlawful or defamatory of others, we publish it as a dated update to the story, fairly summarised or quoted, in the story's language edition or both.
- If your reply shows that the story was wrong, we correct it under the levels above.
- Before publishing stories that make serious allegations, our editors seek comment from the people or organisations concerned where it is reasonable to do so.
If you are not satisfied
If you disagree with our decision on a correction or a reply, you can escalate it through our complaints and grievance procedure. You can also approach Press Council Nepal, as explained on that page.
Legal notices
Correction requests are handled by the desk. If your request is a legal claim (for example defamation or privacy), send it to legal@wenepal.com as described in complaints and grievances; for copyright, see the copyright policy.
