Recent floods in Rasuwa have disrupted access to essential sexual and reproductive health services, raising concerns for local women and girls. The environmental disaster has impacted the distribution of contraception and limited access to critical healthcare facilities in the region. This situation has emerged during a period of national focus on reproductive rights, as the country observes two major awareness days. On 26 September, Nepal marked its 12th National Safe Abortion Service Day, an initiative dedicated to promoting the legal right to safe abortions and quality reproductive healthcare. This is followed by International Safe Abortion Day on 28 September. Both events emphasise the importance of preventing unsafe abortions and ensuring that women have the necessary resources to make informed choices about their health. Nabin Kumar Shrestha, an advocate with the Forum for Women, Law and Development, pointed out that women and girls face heightened vulnerabilities during natural disasters. Shrestha explained that emergency situations often lead to a loss of access to vital reproductive health information and services. The Forum for Women, Law and Development continues to advocate for dignified reproductive healthcare and safe abortion access across the country.
