Nepal's Bahadur Khadka finishes last in Asian Games men's marathon

Khadka, running at his first Asian Games, was the last of the finishers in the men's marathon, crossing the line in 2 hours 23 minutes 42 seconds. That left him 12 minutes 53 seconds behind the winner, Ichitaka Yamashita of Japan, according to OnlineKhabar. The race was part of the athletics programme at the 20th edition of the Games. Yamashita took the gold medal in 2 hours 10 minutes 49 seconds. India's Sawan Barwal claimed silver 48 seconds later, and China's Feng Peiyu took bronze, finishing 1 minute 24 seconds after the winner. The report does not give the size of the field or the placings of the other runners. Before the race Khadka had set himself the target of breaking Baikuntha Manandhar's marathon record, which has stood for almost four decades. Manandhar ran 2 hours 15 minutes 03 seconds at the third South Asian Games in Kolkata in 1987. OnlineKhabar notes that many runners have since tried to better that mark without success.
