Nepal establishes diplomatic relations with Senegal

Nepal has formally established diplomatic relations with Senegal. The joint statement setting up the relationship was signed by Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal and Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Niang in New York, where Khanal is attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to the Foreign Minister's private secretariat. Before the signing, the two foreign ministers held talks in which they took up a range of issues of interest to both countries, the secretariat said. Neither report gives further detail on what was discussed. Reports differ on the day of signing: Khabarhub English gives Thursday, while Ratopati English, whose report appeared on 26 September 2026, says the statement was signed that day. The agreement takes the number of countries with which Nepal maintains diplomatic ties to 188, both outlets reported. The spelling of the ministers' names also varies between the two reports: Ratopati English gives them as Shishir Khanal and Sheikh Niyang, while Khabarhub English spells them Shisir Khanal and Cheikh Niang.
