Iran offers US to reopen Strait of Hormuz within a week

Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister, announced at the United Nations that Tehran is ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for the United States within a week, provided the required conditions are fulfilled. He referred to the terms included in a memorandum of understanding signed in June. According to the minister, the proposal was transmitted to the United States through Qatar, and the responsibility for any decision now lies with the American side. He did not specify the exact steps the US must take, noting that they are already listed in the agreement. A US official, speaking to the BBC, confirmed that constructive dialogue is taking place via mediators and that nuclear issues are part of the discussions. The official also said the United States retains a strong position on the waterway and is not under pressure to act quickly. The June 18 memorandum contained fourteen points, including a cease‑fire, Iran's commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons, the end of US naval blockades and the easing of sanctions. Both parties later resumed hostilities, which led to the earlier closure of the strait and a spike in global oil and gas prices.
