Nepali Congress Leaders Announce Candidacy for Central Committee

Several figures have publicly announced their intention to run for central committee positions within the Nepali Congress during the 15th general convention taking place in Kathmandu. Among those declaring their candidacies are Dr Kala Pant, Nirmal Rijal, Ganesh Lama, and Nima Giri. Each candidate outlined distinct focuses for their prospective roles in the central leadership structure. Dr Kala Pant stated that her candidacy aims to represent the political voice of the new generation, promote female leadership, and foster a results-oriented political culture. Nirmal Rijal pointed to his long involvement in democratic movements and social services, noting his work in assisting patients from Koshi province and Panchthar who travel to Kathmandu for medical treatment. Ganesh Lama highlighted his ongoing involvement in party organization and his assignment as the coordinator of the volunteer management committee for the convention. Nima Giri, a Lumbini Provincial Assembly Member and provincial joint general secretary, announced her candidacy for the open women category. In parallel with the leadership announcements, the Nepali Congress central working committee held a meeting at Khulamanch to discuss structural improvements. According to reports, the committee decided to amend the party's statute to modernize the membership system and make the leadership selection process more inclusive. The ongoing convention events also saw the participation of senior figures such as Balkrishna Khand in the closed session meetings. Candidates and party members emphasized the need for transparency, efficiency, and generational renewal within the political organization. The convention continues with discussions on organizational rules and the upcoming internal elections as delegates gather in Kathmandu to determine the future direction of the leadership.
