Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha instructed the Nepal Electricity Authority to improve and broaden its electronic bill payment system. During a discussion held with the heads of NEA division offices in Hetauda, the minister emphasised that the practice of residents spending hours waiting in queues must end. The minister pointed out that although electronic payment figures have risen, the current adoption level remains inadequate, with many individuals still required to stand in line. He noted that digital options save time, decrease expenses, and simplify staff management for the authority, stating that electronic payments should be promoted as a widespread campaign. According to the minister, the NEA Board of Directors has already granted approval for a plan to extend digital payment services, and this initiative needs effective implementation at the grassroots level. He added that the authority must actively run public awareness campaigns to encourage customers to use online methods instead of visiting offices. Alongside payment systems, the minister highlighted that safeguarding electrical structures and controlling electricity leakage is a shared duty. He instructed division heads to conduct inspections and look after electrical poles rather than simply rebuilding them.
