In short

  • Continuous rain caused road subsidence and landslips in Chitwan's Ichchhakamana rural municipality.
  • A single lane near Simaldhara was reopened to traffic after debris clearance operations.
  • Unstable terrain along the Prithvi Highway continues to present significant travel hazards.

Continuous rainfall has caused widespread disruptions along the Prithvi Highway, impacting transport links after sections of the road gave way and debris cascaded onto the asphalt. The adverse weather conditions specifically affected areas within Ichchhakamana rural municipality in Chitwan, where multiple spots suffered from road subsidence and landslips. In response to the blockages, crews managed to restore partial single-lane operations near Simaldhara in ward number 5 of Ichchhakamana rural municipality after clearing debris from a slip. Despite these clearing efforts, ongoing movement of earth and further subsidence mean that driving along the route remains hazardous for motorists. Beyond the immediate transport corridor in Chitwan, continuous weather events severely impacted normal daily routines and academic activities across other parts of the country. Reports from Gulmi highlight disrupted community life, blocked roads, and the temporary closure of schools, while local administrative changes took place within Myagdi.
