In short

  • An artificial water basin in a local forest has improved irrigation access for farmers.
  • The structure was built under the Greater Dang Valley Irrigation Project.
  • Nearby wells that previously dried up early now retain water throughout the year.

Agriculturalists in Dang have gained better access to water resources following the creation of an artificial water basin situated within a forested sector. The development has successfully altered previously dry plots that historically relied exclusively on monsoon rainfall into productive crop-growing land supported by a dependable water network. Govinda Nepali, representing the local Dam Conservation Committee, explained that the reservoir built through the Greater Dang Valley Irrigation Project has commenced channeling agricultural water into the Hemantapur locality. Besides facilitating crop cultivation, the installation has elevated subsurface moisture levels across surrounding wells and traditional water supply points, improving overall availability for residents. Ward Chairperson Madhav Oli noted that wells which historically ran dry as early as Chaitra, corresponding to March and April, currently sustain water throughout the entire annual cycle. The presence of the storage basin facilitates continuous replenishment of subsurface moisture, benefiting the entire community throughout dry periods.
