In short

  • Landslides and floods have affected 42 households in Chinakhet, Myagdi.
  • Arable land measuring 150 ropanis has been reduced to barren ground.
  • Residents have urged state authorities to arrange safe relocation and temporary housing.

Families in Chinakhet, located in ward number 3 of Beni Municipality in Myagdi, are experiencing a bleak festive season following severe natural disasters. Reports state that agricultural land spanning one hundred and fifty ropanis has been transformed into stony barrens, directly impacting forty-two households in the settlement. Residents described how recurring floods and landslips have swept away residential buildings and livestock sheds, leaving communities in deep distress. The disaster has brought compounded grief to individuals dealing with the loss of family members alongside the destruction of their property. According to reports, repeated inundation and mudslides occurring within a two-month window have driven villagers to contemplate abandoning their ancestral lands. Landslides originating from the slopes above the village send debris-laden torrents directly into agricultural plots and residential zones. With neither secure shelter nor productive farmland remaining, community members find themselves torn between remaining in hazardous dwellings or relocating elsewhere. Reports indicate that villagers have formally appealed to state authorities for urgent intervention. Their demands include the establishment of temporary accommodation for families living in high-risk zones, safe relocation options, and comprehensive flood and landslide mitigation programs to protect the region.
