Nepal intends to centre its delegation on climate justice, mountain zone preservation, adaptation measures, and climate-induced loss and damage during the 31st Conference of the Parties to the international climate change treaty process (COP-31). The Ministry of Forests and Environment stated that although the country contributes minimally to global climate change, it faces disproportionate risks and damages, driving the push for international accountability and support. Joint-secretary Dhakal explained that recent catastrophic events across various regions—such as Melamchi, Thame, Manang, Mustang, Kanchanpur, Ilam, and Bhote Koshi—highlight the severe vulnerabilities and ongoing challenges confronting the country. These incidents and the sensitivity of the Himalayan region will be showcased using photographs, videos, and interactive presentations to draw global attention. To finalise preparations for the summit, the administration scheduled a national conference for 12 Kartik. This gathering will bring together various thematic ministries, foreign embassies, development partners, civil society members, and private sector representatives. Furthermore, international talks are progressing to ensure that Nepal receives rapid financial assistance from the loss and damage fund for post-disaster relief and reconstruction. Authorities also intend to include representatives from civil society, the private sector, and media circles alongside official government delegates to effectively articulate the nation's environmental vulnerabilities and conservation efforts to the global community. Officials indicated that providing international partners with clear information regarding carbon trading potential, investment prospects, legal frameworks, and operational areas could expand cooperation and financial flows into this sector.
