Inside WeNepal

On this page

The WeNepal app puts independent news for Nepal on your phone, in Nepali or English. It is free on Google Play for Android and on the App Store for iPhone, where it is listed as "WeNepal: Nepal in One App". On your home screen it is simply "WeNepal". In short: news, live radio, exam results, Patro, forex and daily tools, all in one app.

What is in the app

The app is organised around five tabs: Home for the news, Pulse, Video, Tracker, and Me, your own space for saved stories, alerts and settings.

The latest news

Stories from all twelve sections, from politics and the economy to NEPSE, sports and the provinces, updated through the day. Each story is short, with a summary, key points and a line on why it matters. Every story shows its byline and the line "From public sources and the WeNepal research team". You can search stories and pick up where you left off from your reading history.

The Pulse, to read or to hear

The Pulse is our morning and evening digest of what matters. In the app you can read it or listen to it. Audio editions are read in the WeNepal newsroom voice, a synthetic voice, with a chapter for each story so you can skip ahead or go back, change the speed, and keep listening with the screen locked. If an audio edition is not ready yet, your phone's own voice reads the digest instead. There is also a quick story mode that runs through the edition in about a minute. More in WeNepal Pulse and videos.

Short videos

A swipeable feed of short vertical news videos with captions, in Nepali and English.

Local news

Pick your province or district and see the news from your area first.

Live FM radio

Listen live to FM stations from across Nepal, with the player running in the background while you use other apps. The app plays each station's own public live stream.

Exams & results

Links to the official result pages of exam bodies: SEE and Grade 12, CTEVT, Lok Sewa and other government recruitment, universities and medical entrance, and professional and driving licences. Each official site opens inside the app as it is. You can save your symbol or roll number and date of birth once, on your phone, and the app fills the form for you. WeNepal does not publish results and does not represent the Government of Nepal or any exam body; results come only from each body's own site. See Exams & results.

Governance tracker

Promises made in public by the government, ministries, provinces and local bodies, with where each one stands and how that status is decided. See The WeNepal governance tracker.

Tool House

Everyday tools that many Nepali households look for:

  • Nepali calendar (Bikram Sambat with Gregorian dates), with public holidays for BS 2083 taken only from the Government of Nepal's official notice.
  • Date converter between BS and AD, plus age and days between dates.
  • Preeti to Unicode converter, both ways, for old Nepali typing.
  • Income tax calculator using the FY 2083/84 slabs, plus loan EMI, VAT and discount.
  • Exchange rates as published by Nepal Rastra Bank.
  • Gold and silver value by tola, lal and gram (you enter the day's rate).
  • Amount in words for cheques, unit and land converters (ropani, bigha, aana), world clock, BMI and weather.

During the festival season the home screen also carries Dashain, Tihar and Chhath countdowns with wishes you can share.

Comments and reactions

You can react to any story with like, insightful, sad or angry, without signing in: one reaction per phone per story. Counts are real totals; a reaction nobody has picked shows no number rather than a zero.

Comments need a free account and appear under the public display name you choose, never your phone number or email. Comments pass an automatic filter for abuse, spam and personal details, readers can report comments and block users, and staff review reported comments. Comments are closed on stories about sensitive subjects. The rules are in our community guidelines.

Notifications you control

Alerts are opt-in at the system level, and you choose what you get:

  • On by default once you allow alerts: breaking news, a few daily highlights, and the morning and evening Pulse.
  • Optional: governance tracker updates, every new story as it is published, and any of the twelve news sections.
  • Quiet hours: set a window when the app stays silent.

Alerts arrive in the language you read in.

Read offline, save for later

Save any story to read later. Saved stories and recent editions stay on your phone, so you can keep reading on a flight, underground or with a weak signal. A reaction you make offline is sent when you are back online.

Your language, your way

Switch the whole app between Nepali and English at any time. Choose light or dark mode and adjust the text size. Dates appear in both Bikram Sambat and the Gregorian calendar.

Privacy

The app does not track you across other apps or websites. An account is optional. If you want to sync saved stories and alerts, or to comment, you can sign in with a one-time code sent to your phone or email. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.
