30-Day Countdown Begins for 10th National Games in Karnali

A 30-day countdown officially commenced on Monday for the 10th National Games in Karnali Province. Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel arrived in Surkhet to inspect stadiums and athletic infrastructure, expressing confidence in the region's overall preparedness. Following field inspections in Birendranagar, Minister Pokharel noted that major construction projects related to stadium facilities are now finished. He emphasised that federal authorities are coordinating with provincial and local governments to manage resources and required personnel effectively. During discussions with stakeholders, concerns were raised regarding public awareness surrounding the games. Minister Pokharel acknowledged that initial promotional efforts had been insufficient, prompting officials to visit Birendranagar to address publicity strategies. He assured that campaign efforts would be expanded nationwide to increase enthusiasm. A senior sports official reiterated plans to scale up promotional work across Nepal to deliver a successful tournament. Karnali Province Chief Minister Mangal Bahadur Shahi highlighted that hosting the competition presents both an opportunity and a challenge for the region. Although the provincial executive operates as a co-host, Chief Minister Shahi explained that organizing the sporting spectacle is directly linked to regional prestige. He reaffirmed that provincial agencies are giving maximum priority to ensure smooth execution, calling for sincere cooperation among all participating bodies. The 10th National Games are slated to take place from 16 to 27 Mangsir 2083 in Karnali Province, after schedule adjustments occurred on five previous occasions. Government officials, council representatives, and local municipal leaders in Birendranagar maintain that basic administrative frameworks, clear divisions of responsibility, and necessary site preparations are aligned for the upcoming sports gather.
