In short

  • A weakening storm system from the Bay of Bengal is driving the current forecast.
  • Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are expected between 29 October and 31 October.
  • High mountain areas face risks of heavy snowstorms, avalanches and trekking bans.

Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for incoming rain and snowfall across several regions starting from today. According to reports, a powerful storm system that developed in the Bay of Bengal has begun to lose intensity as it moves. The Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology stated that certain areas might experience significant precipitation over the coming days. Predictions indicate that from the evening of 29 October to 31 October, most locations within Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces will likely witness moderate rain and snowfall. These conditions are expected to arrive alongside thunder and lightning. Furthermore, specific localities within these same provinces could see heavy downpours and accumulation of snow. Officials have advised the public to remain vigilant during this period of unsettled weather. High mountain locations face particular hazards such as heavy snowfall, snowstorms and potential avalanches. Consequently, individuals have been strongly advised against undertaking trekking expeditions in vulnerable high-altitude sectors until conditions improve.
