In short

  • Saudi Aramco bought a 49 percent stake in state-invested AI firm Human via a subsidiary.
  • The Public Investment Fund and Aramco will provide assets, talent, and capabilities.
  • Human aims to build three gigawatts of AI data centre capacity by the year 2030.

Saudi oil firm Aramco announced on Sunday that it acquired a 49 percent holding in the state-invested artificial intelligence enterprise Human. The transaction was completed using a wholly-owned subsidiary of the energy company. Under the structure, 51 percent remains outside Aramco's newly acquired share holding as the enterprise builds out its regional infrastructure. The partnership involves both Aramco and the Public Investment Fund, which will contribute talent, capabilities, and assets to the artificial intelligence entity. Officials stated that the ownership stake will assist Human in accelerating its growth to address rising regional and international demand for artificial intelligence capabilities. Human has set a target to establish three gigawatts of artificial intelligence data centre capacity by the year 2030. The movement aligns with wider national investments backed by the Public Investment Fund as the enterprise seeks to build full AI capabilities globally.
