In short

  • The Langtang Valley trekking route has reopened following the creation of safe alternative paths.
  • Floods from the Bhotekoshi River previously damaged the Pasang Lhamu Highway and Syafrubesi infrastructure.
  • Local tourism entrepreneurs and guides are optimistic about reviving economic activities in the area.

The popular Langtang Valley trekking route has welcomed visitors again following the completion of alternative paths designed to protect travellers. Natural disasters and flooding from the Bhotekoshi River previously wrecked local infrastructure, including parts of the Pasang Lhamu Highway and areas near Syafrubesi, which severely disrupted tourism operations and local incomes. Collaborative efforts by the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal and regional authorities led to the creation of secure alternative pathways. Dindu Jyangba Tamang, chairperson of Ward No 4 of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, noted that while the disaster impacted trails, the newly established routes are safe for travel. Tourism workers, guides, and business owners have expressed optimism about reviving the local economy as visitors return. The reopening of these alternative paths is expected to help restore livelihoods for residents in the region following the severe disruptions caused by recent weather events.
