  • KMC halts waste collection as rain damages Bancharedanda landfill road

Waste collection and disposal in Kathmandu have been suspended after heavy rain sent muddy water flowing at the Bancharedanda landfill site and left the access road in poor condition. In a notice issued on Friday, 26 September 2026, Kathmandu Metropolitan City said the transport and disposal of waste had been halted and asked residents not to put out household waste for now, nor to dump it on roads, at junctions, in rivers, drains or open spaces. Pushkar Bhattarai, chief of the KMC Environment Management Division, said waste-carrying vehicles were stranded along the route after a landslide blocked the road. Bancharedanda, on the Nuwakot–Dhading border, is the Valley's main landfill. From public sources and the WeNepal research team
