Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced plans to hold the Kathmandu Film Festival 2083 from 13 to 15 Kartik. Speaking at a press event on Tuesday, municipal officials explained that the main purpose of the gathering is to preserve original culture, tradition, and heritage while promoting local heritage on a global platform. All film screenings during the three-day event will be made available to attendees without any entry fees. Municipal leadership highlighted that the initiative seeks to establish the capital as a city of stories by linking the film sector with community, education, and technical industries. The festival also aims to honor older generations while transferring artistic skills to younger creators. In addition, local creators and professionals will receive opportunities to build connections with international platforms through the various programs scheduled over the festival period. As part of the effort to preserve historical cinema, special screenings of classic Nepali feature films from the 1970s and 80s, including Kumari and Ke Ghar Ke Dera, are slated for the event. The festival program will feature movies from several countries alongside these heritage selections. Distinguished guests from the international film industry, including Indian actress Shabana Azmi, Japanese director Takayuki Nakamura, and Marco Muller, are set to participate in the festival. Delegates from the cinematic institution in Shanghai will also join the gatherings to support international artistic collaboration.
