Kathmandu Valley Security Heightened Ahead of Major Festive Season

Police authorities have introduced targeted operational measures across the Kathmandu Valley to curb potential criminal acts and preserve public order throughout the upcoming celebrations of Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath. The specialized initiative aims to allow residents to mark the festive period without security concerns. According to Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu, security protocols focus heavily on protecting citizens visiting commercial markets, returning to home districts, or travelling locally. Officers have intensified patrolling, surveillance, and checkposts in high-traffic zones to prevent theft, fraud, and public disruptions during the busy shopping and travel period. As part of the deployment plan in the capital, 3,506 security personnel have been assigned across strategic locations under the direction of the District Police Range Kathmandu. Across Nepal, broader security preparations involve 300,000 security personnel deployed across 20 key operational zones to maintain stability throughout the festive season. In addition to physical deployments, law enforcement agencies have issued general safety guidelines for the public. Authorities advised individuals to secure their homes before traveling, remain vigilant regarding unfamiliar individuals, and immediately inform the nearest police station if any unusual or suspicious activities are observed.
