In short

  • A volunteer group in Khotang provided free motorcycle rides to 642 women during Dashain.
  • The service assists travellers facing financial hardship or vehicle shortages during holidays.
  • Organisers stated that the volunteer initiative will continue offering rides for Tihar.

A volunteer group in Khotang launched a community service initiative to assist travellers during the Dashain festival period. The campaign provided complimentary motorcycle transport for female relatives travelling to their paternal homes. Programme coordinator Sanjay Kumar Rai explained that the service was designed specifically for women, children and elderly residents who faced difficulties finding transport or lacked the financial means to pay regular vehicle fares. According to the campaign coordinator, transport logs show that 642 female travellers utilised the complimentary motorcycle rides over a four-day period. Daily figures recorded during the festival travel rush included fifty passengers on the third day of Kartik, one hundred ten passengers on the fourth day, two hundred fifty-two passengers on the fifth day, and two hundred thirty passengers on the sixth day. Organisers stated that the volunteer transport effort is part of an ongoing community tradition. Previous records provided by the programme coordinator indicate that free motorcycle rides were given to 345 individuals in the year 2081, and roughly seven hundred participants in the year 2082. Following the completion of the Dashain travel assistance, the youth group intends to extend the same complimentary transport services to travellers during the upcoming Tihar festival.
