In short

  • Beni-Darbang road reopened on Sunday afternoon following a one-day closure caused by a landslide at Faparkhet.
  • Infrastructure Development Office Myagdi deployed backhoe loaders to clear debris on the 24-km route.
  • Mangala Construction representative warned of ongoing risks due to fresh cracks on the nearby hill slope.

Direct vehicular traffic along the 24-kilometre Beni-Darbang road stretch in Myagdi district has been restored on Sunday afternoon after being completely blocked for a day. The key transport link connects three local government units in the western belt of the district directly with the headquarters at Beni Bazaar. The disruption occurred after a landslide struck the Faparkhet area, situated on the border between Beni Municipality-4 and Mangala Rural Municipality-2, on Friday night. Following the obstruction, the Infrastructure Development Office in Myagdi deployed backhoe loaders to clear the accumulated mud and rocks from the road surface, allowing vehicles to pass again. Efforts to mitigate landslides in the Faparkhet area have been ongoing since before the track was initially opened in 2058 BS, according to reports. Chakralal Pandey, representing Mangala Construction which handled the clearance work, noted that while immediate transit has been restored, the area faces continuous risks. A fresh hill segment has cracked above the road, creating ongoing hazards for commuters and vehicles.
