In short

  • The Saudi-led coalition intercepted two drones launched towards Riyadh on Saturday.
  • Overnight alerts from civil defence were issued for Khamis Mushait and Abha.
  • The Houthis have targeted Saudi cities, energy infrastructure, and shipping.

A military coalition led by Saudi Arabia reported that it successfully intercepted two drones launched towards Riyadh. The announcement was made early on Saturday, 26 September 2026. Prior to the capital city incident, civil defence authorities issued overnight warnings for Khamis Mushait and Abha, while no alerts were sent for Riyadh. The Iran-backed Houthis, who hold control over the densely populated regions and northern territories of Yemen, have maintained hostile operations against the Kingdom. These actions commenced after the declaration of a naval blockade directed at Riyadh in July. Since that time, operations have been directed at energy installations, municipal areas, and commercial vessels within the Red Sea corridor. These ongoing security incidents contribute to wider disruptions affecting international petroleum shipments. Additional strain stems from regional conflicts involving Iran, while alternative transit channels through the Red Sea for Gulf shipments remain endangered because traffic via the Strait of Hormuz stays largely restricted.

US looks to become major source of India's energy, official says

A senior State Department official has said the United States wants to become a major source of energy for India, which has long sought to diversify its supplies. Speaking in New York, the official said the US is expanding hydrocarbon exports and is already the largest exporter of LPG and the second-largest for LNG. The remarks follow last week's signing by President Donald Trump of the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, which lets him impose tariffs of up to 100% on buyers of Russian oil and gas, including India and China. The official said the law gives Trump a tool he need not use immediately and includes a broad national security waiver. From public sources and the WeNepal research team
