In short

  • SEBON formed a seven-member committee to introduce new instruments to the capital market.
  • The panel will build technical, legal, and institutional infrastructure for non-equity products.
  • Instruments under study include green bonds, ETFs, REITs, InvITs, and derivatives.

The Securities Board of Nepal has formed a seven-member committee to diversify the range of financial products available in the domestic securities sector. This team is tasked with drafting and putting into place the required technical, legal, and institutional frameworks to broaden market offerings beyond standard equity trading. Regulators are directing the panel to examine several specific financial products for implementation. These include government, municipal, corporate, green, and infrastructure bonds, as well as derivatives. The study will also cover investment vehicles such as Exchange-Traded Funds, Infrastructure Investment Trusts, and Real Estate Investment Trusts. The committee's work forms part of a market development roadmap aimed at phased rollout across different trading segments. By establishing these structured instruments, authorities intend to lower the sector's current structural over-reliance on traditional stock transactions and introduce wider investment options for the capital market.
