Road closures leave Kagbenidham empty during ritual season

Heavy rainfall and road blockages have severely impacted tourist arrivals and ritual activities at Kagbenidham in Mustang. According to local priests and tourism entrepreneurs, blocked routes have prevented pilgrims and spiritual practitioners from reaching the site, leading to widespread cancellations of hotel reservations and bringing local development projects to a halt. • Power and internet services disrupted in Mustang for 36 hours

Electricity and internet connections in Mustang stopped working for a day and a half following heavy downpours that caused floods and landslides. Power lines originating in Parbat suffered damage from river erosion and falling trees, forcing a local substation to shut down. Officials stated that optical-fiber networks also broke down across multiple locations, though some areas maintained mobile communications through alternative radio links. Repair crews have been dispatched to inspect the affected electricity lines and substations. From public sources and the WeNepal research team

  • Transmission line repairs begin in Myagdi and Mustang after floods

Repair operations are underway for power transmission lines in Myagdi and Mustang following infrastructure damage caused by heavy rainfall and river flooding. Four towers of a major 220 kV transmission line collapsed in Annapurna Rural Municipality, disconnecting six hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 176 MW from the national grid. Officials noted that immediate power distribution from the Dana substation is not currently feasible, prompting teams to work on an alternative 33 kV route. Logistics remain challenging as sections of land and power infrastructure were entirely washed away by swollen waters. From public sources and the WeNepal research team

  • Bad weather cuts short Annapurna Circuit treks in Manang

Incessant rainfall and difficult weather have forced international visitors travelling through the Annapurna Circuit Trek to curtail their journeys and head back to Lamjung. According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, 246 travellers have retreated from Manang within the past week alone, abandoning plans to cross the high-altitude pass towards Mustang and Pokhara. Officials noted that daily visitor numbers through Dharapani previously reached up to 150 individuals, but arrivals have now slowed to a trickle as travellers avoid escalating environmental risks along the trail. • Landslides block Jomsom-Koral road, stranding China trade containers

Continuous rain has blocked the Jomsom-Koral road in Mustang, the District Police Office Mustang said. Landslides hit three points on the route to the Koral pass; one at Ghami in Upper Mustang has been cleared, but the road remains shut at Kalobhir above Chaili and on the Kagbeni-Tangwe stretch. Containers carrying goods to and from the Koral pass are stuck, disrupting trade with China, and hundreds of electric vehicles brought in from China are held up in Jomsom. The Beni-Jomsom section was also blocked in several places, according to the road's project chief. From public sources and the WeNepal research team
