Advance bus ticket reservations for passengers traveling home for Dashain will officially open on October 9. The decision was reached following discussions held on Tuesday at the Department of Transport Management involving relevant transport authorities and sector stakeholders. During the meeting, Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs Chairman Punya Prasad Sitaula, also known as Saroj, and Department Director General Rajeev Pokharel represented their respective sides to finalise the upcoming festival arrangements. According to the Department of Transport Management, preparations are under way to guarantee safe and orderly travel conditions throughout the festival period. These measures encompass passenger services, vehicle management, and coordination with transport operators alongside security agencies. Furthermore, route permits will not be required during the Dashain festival. The government typically relaxes these permit requirements nationwide to accommodate the heavy passenger volume, with reports noting that around 2 million people depart from the Kathmandu Valley every year during the festival.
