The Jamunaha border crossing in Nepalgunj, Banke, has experienced a significant rise in passenger traffic as Nepali migrant workers return from India. With the major festivals of Dashain and Tihar approaching, citizens who have been working in various Indian cities are making their way back home to celebrate the festive season alongside their families and relatives. According to reports, those returning have been employed in several Indian locations, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Himachal Pradesh, Shimla, and Kullu. Many of these individuals have spent years working abroad under challenging conditions to support their households and secure the future of their children, while others are returning to Nepal after nearly five years. Among the returning travellers on Wednesday was Gangadhara KC of Nalgad Municipality-4 in Jajarkot, who crossed the Jamunaha border to reach her home. Similarly, Gopal Thapa from Badhaiyatal Rural Municipality-7, Jamuni in Bardiya, returned from Himachal Pradesh. Returning workers expressed that despite working in India for extended periods, they make it a priority to celebrate these major festivals with their families. To assist the large influx of citizens and prevent any untoward incidents or exploitation during their journey, the Nepal Police are maintaining a close watch and monitoring the border area.
