Kathmandu Metropolitan City has introduced a motorcycle ambulance initiative designed to accelerate emergency healthcare responses across the city. Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol inaugurated the new facility at Kathmandu Plaza and handed over the two-wheeled ambulances to Nepal Ambulance Service to run the operations. The initiative addresses challenges posed by severe road congestion, which frequently prevents regular four-wheeled vehicles from reaching patients promptly. City authorities explained that the two-wheelers would ensure trained medical personnel arrive at the scene rapidly to provide essential first aid and stabilise people in critical condition. Under this arrangement, emergency medical technicians travelling on the bikes will administer primary care to prevent health conditions from deteriorating before standard ambulances arrive to transfer patients to hospital. The service is currently available within Kathmandu Metropolitan City and can be accessed by dialling 102. Anil Shrestha noted that investments by Kathmandu Metropolitan City into emergency medical facilities continue to support efforts to save citizens' lives. Officials expect the two-wheeler response units to minimise delays in critical medical care caused by urban traffic.
