In short

  • Kathmandu Metropolitan City launched a new bike ambulance service to bypass traffic delays.
  • Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol inaugurated the project by handing over vehicles to the Nepal Ambulance Service.
  • The service focuses on delivering trained emergency personnel to patients rather than transporting them.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has rolled out a new bike ambulance initiative to ensure skilled medical staff can reach individuals in need without delay. Traffic congestion in urban areas frequently slows down traditional four-wheeled ambulances, prompting the local administration to adopt a faster response option using two-wheeled vehicles. Sunita Dangol, Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, inaugurated the service at Kathmandu Plaza. During the ceremony, she handed over the bike ambulances to the Nepal Ambulance Service to begin operations. The launch event highlighted the critical need for rapid medical responses during urgent situations. According to the acting mayor, the primary goal of the new fleet is not patient transport. Instead, the motorbikes will rapidly deliver trained emergency medical technicians directly to the patient's location. This swift deployment is particularly important during the critical initial window when immediate medical intervention can save lives.
