In short

  • Large crowds of travellers have gathered at Kalanki and other main valley exit points.
  • People living in the city for studies and work are heading back to their villages.
  • Rural fields feature ripe rice crops while kites appear in the urban skies.

People residing in the city for employment and educational purposes are making their way back to their villages to celebrate Dashain. Rural fields feature waving mature rice plants, and kites have started flying in urban skies as the festival approaches. Major exit routes from the Kathmandu Valley are experiencing heavy vehicular congestion. While traffic within busy urban streets thins out, significant crowds of travellers gather at exit points such as Kalanki and Koteshwor. The movement toward home districts has created major crowds at departure areas across the capital's main transit corridors. Passengers face arbitrary transportation fares amidst the departure rush from the valley. Travellers continue to exit the Kathmandu Valley through primary gateways as the festival period begins. Transport congestion remains high on roads leading out of the capital while urban areas grow quieter.
