Kathmandu hosted the third meeting of the Nepal-Russia Bilateral Consultation Mechanism as both nations marked seventy years since establishing diplomatic ties. Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai headed the Nepali team, and Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko led the Russian delegation during the discussions. The talks reviewed the broader status of bilateral relations and explored cooperation across trade, investment, tourism, education, culture, and technical assistance. Reports stated that participants also addressed the condition of Nepali nationals serving in the Russian Army. The ongoing consultations operate under a protocol signed on 5 September 1995, which established a formal framework for regular exchanges concerning bilateral, regional, and international matters. During an open dialogue event organised by the Russian Embassy in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko conveyed condolences regarding the lives and property lost during recent floods in Nepal. The Russian delegation included Russian Ambassador to Nepal Aleksei Surovtsev alongside ministry officials and embassy diplomats.
