Swiss Policy Advisor Meets Nepal's Communications Minister in Kathmandu

The Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, held a courtesy meeting with Isabelle Lois, the Senior Policy Advisor of the Federal Office of Communications of Switzerland, in Kathmandu. During the discussions, the two representatives focused on expanding cooperation and mutual support in the fields of information and communication technology between Nepal and Switzerland. During the meeting, Minister Timilsina expressed his gratitude for the continuous assistance provided by the Swiss government across various sectors. He noted that Nepal is actively prioritising digital transformation, adding that the domestic environment is becoming increasingly favourable for attracting foreign investments into this specific sector. Lois extended an official invitation for Nepal to participate in the AI Global Summit 2027. The international event is scheduled to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on 21 and 22 June 2027. During her visit, the senior policy advisor also sought information regarding the priorities of Nepal and its relevant stakeholders concerning the upcoming summit. Separately, Minister Timilsina emphasised that the government is prioritising digital transformation by expanding reliable, high-quality internet services. He stated that these connectivity efforts are specifically targeted at rural, remote, and mountainous regions of the country. The remarks coincide with the 17th Asia Pacific Regional event organised by the Internet Governance Institute.
