In short

  • Traffic is banned on Kanti Lokpath at night for two days due to weather risks.
  • The restriction applies from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am on October 29 and 30.
  • The highway connects Kathmandu with Makwanpur across mountainous terrain.

Authorities in Makwanpur have blocked vehicular movement along the Kanti Lokpath during nighttime hours for a duration of two days. The measure was enacted as persistent rainfall significantly raised the threat of landslides and flooding across the highway connecting Kathmandu with Makwanpur. Transport operators and travellers were directed to steer clear of the route during the prohibited time frame to avert potential disasters. A curfew was imposed by the Makwanpur District Administration Office between 5:00 pm and 5:00 am on October 29 and 30. Officials pointed to continuous downpours linked to weather patterns from the Bay of Bengal region as the underlying cause for the heightened environmental hazards. Travellers were urged to cooperate with the directive and plan their journeys outside the restricted nighttime window to ensure safety. The route serves as a vital connecting link between Kathmandu and Makwanpur, but challenging weather conditions necessitated immediate administrative action. Transport operators were specifically advised to avoid travelling along the highway during the stipulated hours of prohibition. The administration emphasised that keeping vehicles off the route overnight is essential for preventing any potential loss of life or property from unexpected road blockages.
