Farming areas for vegetables and paddy in Tanahun have experienced measurable growth since dedicated zones were established in the district. According to senior agriculture development officer Purna Dhungana at the Gorkha programme implementation unit, vegetable cultivation expanded by an area of 200 hectares since the vegetable zone began operations. Meanwhile, paddy farming increased by 85 hectares following the introduction of the paddy zone in the area. These interventions aim to make farming more commercial and production-oriented for local growers. The vegetable zone operates through direct partnerships with two cooperatives, two farmer groups, and 11 agricultural entrepreneurs. Involving these various entities and local cultivators helps organise the agricultural workforce and gives commercial direction to local production efforts. Such structured programmes are designed to systematically unite cultivators, cooperatives, and enterprises under designated zones. Officials note that incorporating multiple stakeholders into the operational framework ensures better organisation within the local farming sector and supports ongoing efforts to scale up commercial output across Tanahun.
