In short

  • Trekking activities in high mountain regions are suspended for three days due to extreme weather warnings.
  • Permits for restricted high-altitude areas will not be issued from 12 to 14 Kartik.
  • Tourists currently on trekking routes are urged to remain in secure shelters until risks clear.

The Department of Immigration has advised travelers to stop all trekking activities in upper hill and mountainous zones for three days. The decision comes after weather warnings were released regarding potential natural hazards in the higher altitudes. Director of the department Surya Prasad Chapagain issued a formal notice citing alerts from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. The authority warned of severe threats, including heavy snowfall, snowstorms, and avalanches, across high mountain and hill areas scheduled for 12, 13, and 14 Kartik. During this specified three-day timeframe, officials confirmed that no trekking permits will be provided for restricted locations in high-altitude zones. The initiative aims to prevent potential human casualties caused by extreme weather conditions. For tourists already present within restricted routes, authorities recommended remaining strictly inside secure shelters or safe locations instead of wandering. The department cautioned everyone to suspend travel completely until official notifications indicate that disaster risks have passed.
