KMC halts waste collection as rain damages Bancharedanda landfill road

Waste collection and disposal in Kathmandu have been suspended after heavy rain sent muddy water flowing at the Bancharedanda landfill site and left the access road in poor condition. In a notice issued on Friday, 26 September 2026, Kathmandu Metropolitan City said the transport and disposal of waste had been halted and asked residents not to put out household waste for now, nor to dump it on roads, at junctions, in rivers, drains or open spaces. Pushkar Bhattarai, chief of the KMC Environment Management Division, said waste-carrying vehicles were stranded along the route after a landslide blocked the road. Heavy rain forecast for five provinces on 26 September 2026

Five provinces face heavy rain on 26 September 2026, the Weather Forecasting Division says: Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki at a few locations, Madhesh and Lumbini at one or two. Hill areas of Koshi and Bagmati could see very heavy falls at isolated spots, and windstorms are possible in Madhesh and Koshi's Tarai. Cloud will cover most of the country, bringing moderate showers with thunder and lightning to the hills and plains of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini and to fewer spots in Karnali and Sudurpashchim. R. N. Joshi Museum of Modern Art set up in Pulchowk, Lalitpur

Lalitpur has a new museum for Nepali modern art. The R. N. Joshi Museum of Modern Art in Pulchowk, created by the Ramananda Joshi Art Trust together with the museum body, is housed where artist Ramananda Joshi (1938–1988) once lived and worked, and sets out to research, conserve and promote modern art in Nepal. A formal opening will come with the exhibition Imbricated: R. N. Joshi and the Making of Nepali Modern Art, curated by Pranav Man Singh of Kathmandu University. Visitors will find Joshi's paintings alongside photographs, letters, personal papers and publications that chart the field's growth from the 1950s onwards. Myagdi couple turn fallow hillside into walnut and vegetable farm

A couple in Bhakimli, ward 3 of Beni Municipality in Myagdi, have brought a fallow hillside back into cultivation. Ram and Parvati Ruchal farm 14 ropani of ancestral land plus six ropani on rent and have planted 350 walnut saplings of the Dante variety, which they say makes them the first commercial walnut growers in the area. Cabbage grown between the trees earned Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand in Pokhara last year, and the couple also grow off-season potato, 300 orange trees supported by a Gandaki Province project, and chilli. NEPSE slips 0.66 percent in three-day trading week

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index lost 17.41 points (0.66 percent) over the week to close at 2,629.81 on Thursday. Trading took place on only three days, and total turnover fell 39.3 percent to Rs18.36 billion, although average daily turnover rose slightly to Rs6.12 billion. Manufacturing and processing was the only one of 13 sectoral indices to gain. Landslide puts up to 25 houses and shops at risk in Gorkha bazaar

Continuous rain has left 22 to 25 houses and shops in Raisans bazaar, in ward 4 of Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality in Gorkha, at risk from a landslide that has been moving for several days. Ward chairman Yam Bahadur Thapa said no house had been swept away yet, but sinking ground and the continuing slide meant buildings could go at any time. Dhodeni, a nearby area, faces the same danger. Preparations are under way to shift affected residents to a community building, with tents being arranged as temporary shelter, and the local administration has urged people in the danger zone to move to safety. Prasai's essay collection ‘Sitaram Dai’ launched in Kathmandu

Critic Basudev Tripathi has launched ‘Sitaram Dai’, a collection of essays by Narendra Raj Prasai, at a ceremony in Kathmandu organised by the Vaniara Foundation. Tripathi said the book, which centres on Sitaram Prasai, could also be read as a biographical work. Bharat Kumar Bhattarai reviewed the long essay in detail at the event. ‘Sitaram Dai’ is the 194th publication of Nai Academy and the 95th work by Prasai, whom Tripathi described as a skilled biographer, essayist and lyricist. Banke villages along Rapti at flood risk after two days of rain

Residents along the Rapti river in Banke are at risk of flooding after two days of continuous rain. Locals in Rapti Sonari and Narainapur rural municipalities say the river erodes farmland every year because there is no permanent embankment, and that around a dozen settlements live in fear of the river entering their villages. Pokhara's Lakeside to host mini street festival on World Tourism Day

A mini street festival will be held on the evening of 27 September (Asoj 11) at Lakeside in Pokhara to mark World Tourism Day. Panchase in Kaski records 189 mm, Nepal's highest rainfall in 24 hours

The Panchase area of Kaski received 189 mm of rain in the 24 hours to 26 September 2026, the most anywhere in Nepal. Archale in Palpa recorded 172 mm, Bharse in Gulmi 170.8 mm, and Kuhun and Darbang in Myagdi 165.2 mm and 161 mm. NASA names four-member Crew-14 team for SpaceX station mission

NASA has announced the four astronauts who will fly Crew-14, a SpaceX mission to the International Space Station. Kayla Barron of the United States will command the spacecraft, with fellow American Chris Burch as pilot. Makoto Suwa of Japan's JAXA and Artyun Kiviryan of Russia's Roscosmos join the flight as research specialists. Nepal hosts 'Sagarmatha to the Sea' climate event at UN headquarters

Nepal has held a high-level climate event, 'Sagarmatha to the Sea: A Call to Action for a Climate Resilient Future', at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, led by Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal. Heavy rain prompts night travel bans and evacuations across Nepal

Bhutan cricket team arrives in Kathmandu for Pokhara practice matches

Nepal and Serbia sign MoU on bilateral consultation mechanism

Nepal and Serbia have signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism. Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal and Marko Djuric, Serbia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed the document in New York on Friday while the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly was under way. Commercial bank lending rises by Rs 63 billion in Bhadau

Lending by Nepal's commercial banks grew by nearly Rs 63 billion in Bhadau, the second month of fiscal year 2083/84 data. Heavy Khumbu snowfall halts trekkers, seven foreign tourists rescued

Heavy snow in Solukhumbu's Khumbu region has disrupted trekking and mountaineering. Shitaye Ashete Habtegebrel of Bahrain won the women's marathon at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday, clocking 2 hours 27 minutes 31 seconds in a race run in rain. China's Sirankoumu Koumu took silver in 2:27:43 and Japan's Mikuni Yada bronze in 2:27:56.
