Nepal top Group A at Asian Games after rain washes out Japan match

Nepal finished top of Group A in men's cricket at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya on Saturday after their match against Japan was abandoned because of rain. Nepal had made 150 in a contest cut to 15 overs at Korogi Athletic Park, but persistent rain kept Japan from starting their reply and the points were shared. Sundeep Jora scored 57 from 32 balls and Lokesh Bam made an unbeaten 52 from 22. Krishnabhir landslide cleared, traffic back on Nagdhunga-Muglin road

Vehicles are moving again on the Nagdhunga-Muglin road section after landslide debris at Krishnabhir was removed. Satendra Mishra, Information Officer of the Nagdhunga-Muglin Road Project (West Section), said the slide had fallen on the road's retaining wall and the gabion wall beside it had collapsed, but 2 to 3 metres of ground still separate the main track from the damage and the surface shows no major cracks. Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear slides at seven other points, including Panidhara, Dharapani, Jawang, Jalbire and Rorang. Sagendra Singh wins 75 kg gold at Asian bodybuilding meet in Bangkok

Nepali bodybuilder Sagendra Singh has taken gold in the men's 75 kg group at the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship, which is under way in Bangkok, Thailand, from 22 to 28 September. He is one of seven Nepali athletes at the event, alongside Juni Rai, Ripu Gharti, Paris Shrestha, Resham Rana, Biplav Thapamagar and Pranesh Shrestha. Earlier, Singh won the men's 80 kg gold at the 16th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Bhutan, where Nepal collected seven medals. Baitadi and Darchula halt vehicle services amid heavy rain warning

Vehicle services have been suspended in Baitadi and Darchula after forecasts of heavy rain and a rising risk of floods and landslides, Republica reported on 26 September 2026. The Baitadi District Administration Office has banned public vehicles across the district from 6am on 26 September until 6am on Sunday, and the Darchula administration has asked that private vehicles, as well as public ones, stay off the roads. SEBON seeks feedback on draft public issue eligibility directive

The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has released a draft directive on the general eligibility of companies for public issues, 2083, and asked stakeholders to send their views within seven days. The notice, dated Asoj 1, says the draft is the first step in carrying out point 1 of the capital market strengthening and revival action plan that the Ministry of Finance published on 2083/05/29. The proposed rules would apply to companies planning to sell securities to the public and set standards for governance, disclosure, use of proceeds and penalties. SEBON seeks public comment on draft debenture registration rules

The Securities Board of Nepal has put a draft of its debenture registration and issuance regulations, 2083 BS, out for public consultation. The regulator says the rules are meant to let eligible organised institutions, not only banks and financial institutions, raise long-term finance by issuing debentures, and to bring registration and issuance procedures in line with international practice. Stakeholders have seven days from the notice's publication to send comments to support@sebon.gov.np. The board says it will study the feedback before finalising the rules. Nepal urges shared climate action from mountains to sea at UN event

Nepal has called for collective international action on climate risk that treats mountains, rivers and seas as one system. Speaking at the event "Sagarmatha to the Sea" at the United Nations Headquarters on 26 September 2026, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said climate systems ignore political boundaries. He cited the collapse of rock and glacier in the Langtang area on 26 August, which his secretariat said he called a "Himalayan Tsunami", and said nearly a third of Nepal's ice has gone in three decades. Landslides shut BP and Prithvi highways as heavy rain persists

Several major highways were blocked or restricted on Friday after continuous rain set off landslides at multiple points, cutting road links between Kathmandu and other regions. The BP Highway was blocked at Charsayabensi and Gimdi in Kavrepalanchok at around 4:30am, and night closures from 5pm to 5am apply on its Kavrepalanchok section until Sunday morning. Five airports closed as poor weather disrupts Nepal's domestic flights

Poor weather and low visibility closed five airports on Friday and disrupted domestic flights across Nepal. Tribhuvan International Airport authorities said Bharatpur, Pokhara, Lukla, Simara and Surkhet could not operate from early morning. Kathmandu's airport was running under Instrument Flight Rules, but services that depend on Visual Flight Rules were affected, with visibility around 3 kilometres at 6am and little changed by 10am. Lukla routes were hit hardest: Sita Air cancelled all its Friday flights, while Tara Air and Summit Air waited for conditions to improve. Rain blocks 11 highways across Nepal, Department of Roads says

Traffic on 11 highways and a number of other road sections has been disrupted by floods and landslides brought on by rain that has continued since 24 September, the Department of Roads said in a notice on the morning of 26 September 2026. The Prithvi Highway is obstructed at Krishnabhir, Chaukibhir, Jawangkhola and Fisling, affecting vehicles heading to Kathmandu. The BP Highway is blocked at Mamti, Piple, Daunne-Kalopul, Charsayabesi, Katunje and Chaukidanda. Subsidence and landslides slow Prithvi Highway traffic in Chitwan

Continuous rain has caused the road to sink and landslides to fall at several points of the Prithvi Highway in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality, Chitwan, disrupting transport, Khabarhub and Reporters Nepal reported on 26 September 2026. On the Chitwan side, the Mugling–Mauwakhola stretch is open to one-way traffic, while the Dhading section has not yet fully reopened. At Dharapani in ward 4 the road has subsided further, so only small vehicles are being let through, one way at a time. Near Mugling, a landslide at Simaldhara in ward 5 has reduced the road to a single lane, and falling rocks are hampering clearance. Nepal establishes diplomatic relations with Senegal

Nepal and Senegal now have diplomatic relations with each other. Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, who is in New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, and Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Niang signed a joint statement to that effect, the Foreign Minister's private secretariat said. Reports differ on the day of signing: Khabarhub English gives Thursday, while Ratopati English, published on 26 September 2026, says it happened that day. Homestays reshape tourism identity of Dagam village in Tanahun

Dagam, a village in Shuklagandaki-2 in Tanahun, has grown into a rural tourism destination on the strength of Magar culture, a traditional way of life, local food and hospitality, Ratopati and Reporters Nepal reported on 26 September 2026. Domestic tourists began choosing the village after VITOF Gandaki, a village tourism promotion forum, recommended it as a destination village; the forum names three such villages each year. Of Dagam's 23 households, 20 are Magar and three are Gurung. A community homestay has run there since 2065 BS, set up after residents visited Sirubari. Tour agents stage two-day programme to signal Nepal's tourism is safe

The Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) has organised a two-day programme meant to tell the world that Nepal's tourism sector is safe. The events mark the 47th World Tourism Day. General Secretary Rajkumar Devkota said the aim was to convey that the sector is fully secure, in working order and open to visitors from every part of the world. Rahughat's 40 MW plant in Myagdi starts feeding the national grid

The 40-megawatt Rahughat Hydropower Project in Raghuganga Rural Municipality, Myagdi, is now linked to the national transmission system, according to reports on 25 and 26 September 2026 citing the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Built by the NEA subsidiary Raghuganga Hydropower Limited, the plant's two 20 MW units have sent power through the 220 kV Kaligandaki Corridor line since Wednesday. Koshi Barrage under red alert with 31 gates open as Saptakoshi rises

Thirty-one gates of the Koshi Barrage in Sunsari have been opened as the Saptakoshi River rises, and the barrage is under a red alert, Chief District Officer Ishwori Prasad Aryal said on 25 September 2026. The flood discharge stood at 240,000 cusecs, below the 500,000 cusecs the Koshi River has exceeded in earlier years, and Aryal said there was no need to panic. Buses held at Kathmandu as landslides cut Prithvi and BP highways

Public transport in and out of Kathmandu was on hold on 25 September 2026 after landslides and floods, brought on by continuous rain since Thursday, blocked the Prithvi and BP highways at several points, said Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office. Light vehicles are still leaving the city by the Pharping route. Disaster authority lists 25 districts at high flood and landslide risk

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has grouped 77 districts into red, orange and yellow categories according to the risk of floods and landslides, with 25 districts in the highest, red band. Nepal Rastra Bank sets foreign exchange rates for Saturday

Nepal Rastra Bank has fixed the foreign exchange rates that apply on Saturday 26 September 2026. Floods force evacuation of vulnerable settlements in Gulmi's Ruru area

Rising flows in the Kaligandaki and Ridi rivers prompted evacuation of settlements near Lamochaupari in Ruru Kshetra Rural Municipality Ward No. 1, Gulmi. Nepal wins bronze in women's kabaddi at 20th Asian Games

Nepal earned a bronze medal in women's kabaddi at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The team lost the semi-final match to India with a score of 48-24 at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium.
