In short

  • Two days of continuous rain damaged ready-to-harvest marigold crops across Siraha.
  • In Golbazar Municipality-3, around 2,500 flower plants collapsed across 4 kattha of land.
  • Another grower in Golbazar-6 lost 3 to 4 kattha of marigolds out of 6 kattha planted.

Growers in Siraha who prepared marigold crops for Tihar, Laxmi Puja, and Chhath have suffered significant damage following two consecutive days of rain. The downpour struck just as farmers planned to pluck the blooms and transport them to market, ruining months of agricultural work. In Golbazar Municipality-3, Manu Syangdan, who has cultivated flowers for 15 to 20 years, planted marigolds across 4 kattha of land this season. Approximately 2,500 flower plants collapsed to the ground during the wet spell, wiping out both the initial investment and expected earnings. Another grower from Golbazar Municipality-6, Rudal Nayak, reported that rainfall destroyed between 3 and 4 kattha out of roughly 6 kattha planted. Farmers who invested in festive floriculture voiced distress that the damaged yields would leave them unable to recover their costs.
