Pakistan's Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif addressed the 81st United Nations General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York City on 25 September 2026. Taking the podium at the global organisation, Mr. Sharif brought up the Kashmir issue once again while delivering his speech. During his address, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his resolute and visionary leadership. He credited the American leader with a timely intervention during the 2025 conflict between India and Pakistan, stating that this action saved hundreds of millions of lives across South Asia. President Trump has previously claimed, including in his own address to the United Nations General Assembly during the same week, that he successfully halted a war between India and Pakistan. In addition to acknowledging foreign leaders, Mr. Sharif repeatedly thanked Pakistan Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, praising his relentless efforts to foster diplomatic space under exceptionally difficult and challenging circumstances.
